The name La Roqueta comes from a very old story. Almost 1,700 years ago, there was a small rocky hill in this area, surrounded by wetlands. People called it “la roqueta”, which means the little rock.” According to tradition, the body of Saint Vincent was placed here after his death in Valencia in the year 304. Later, a church was built here in his honour. Today, the Monastery of San Vicente de la Roqueta still stands here and reminds us of the long history of this part of Valencia. And this is how the name La Roqueta has stayed with the neighbourhood for centuries.
